The 5th May annual celebration is to commemorate the Mexican victory in the1862 Battle of Puebla against the French.
Now,mostly rejoiced in the US than Mexico, it began with celebrations in California in 1863 and felicitates the Mexican-American culture. It gained a national recognition in the 1980s due to various commercial campaigns by wine and beer enterprises.Even today, in Mexico, is all ceremonial with military parades.
