Here’s what we believe are some of the biggest Fashion Week scandals of all time
Fashion Weeks serve us the best looks of the season and set trends we can’t get our eyes away from! However, who said that was all they entail? They are often the place for major scandals, on and off the runway!
Here’s reliving some of the biggest scandals.
Marc Jacobs Vs. Rihanna

There were rumors about the designer deliberately delaying the start of his NYFW 2019 show to make attendees late for Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty lingerie presentation, which was slated immediately after his. Spectators couldn’t help but cry foul because of the usual punctuality of the runway pro. The reason behind the animosity was said to be the 7.30 PM slot, which Jacobs had lost to Rihanna and which was considered important by him.
Taking to Instagram, Marc put the rumors to rest, writing, “I sincerely apologize to anyone and everyone who was inconvenienced by my lateness at our Spring/Summer 2019 fashion show. For anyone interested, below is not a list of excuses but rather a list of facts. I fully understand people have plans, lives, commitments, flights, families to return to, etc, and that I fully RESPECT.”
Claudio Cutugno and his Models Walking in Blackface

Claudio Cutugno received backlash after a fashion show in Milan, in 2015, for having his models walk down the runway in a face full of black makeup. It was perceived as insensitive and offensive. He issued an apology online and sharing his intention that the black makeup was to be a translation of a black veil and not referring to a skin color per se.
He said, “I am extremely sorry if many people thought this makeup would result offensive and also that I am racist, but that was not my intent,” part of the statement read. “I am extremely respectful of the Afro-American culture and extremely sorry for each type of episode of racism. Furthermore, my inspiration was coming from a completely different idea, which has nothing to do with the theme of Afro-American culture. I would have never thought someone could have to find the makeup offensive, otherwise, I would have never used it.”
Kim Kardashian Robbed At Gunpoint

In October 2016, Kim Kardashian was robbed at gunpoint inside of her hotel during Paris Fashion Week. The robber stole jewelry worth $10 million, including a ring her husband Kanye West had gifted her. She told E! about the incident: “That 10 minutes really changed my whole life” she said. She recalled the horror of the event by further elaborating on how duct tape was wrapped over her eyes and mouth and she was all tied up.
Nicki Minaj & Cardi B’s Harper’s Bazaar Fight

During the 2018 Harper’s Bazaar Icons Party, the two women were involved in a heated feud after Nicki allegedly made passed a comment regarding Cardi’s parenting skills. In footage that was released, Cardi could be seen yelling at Minaj. She had allegedly also hurled her shoe at her.
Justin Timberlake getting pranked at Paris Fashion Week

As Timberlake made his way into the 2019 Louis Vuitton Paris Fashion Week show with his wife Jessica Biel, he became the target of another Vitalii Sediuk red carpet prank. The infamous prankster grabbed his foot and held on with a tight grip, ending up on the ground in a dramatic fashion. After he caused quite the ruckus, security removed Vitalii from the scene and Justin and Jessica continued to enter the venue.
However, he took the prank quite lightly and said, on Instagram while sharing a picture of himself and Jessica from the event, “Last night at @louisvuitton. Human anklet not included.”
Dreadlocks Backlash after a Marc Jacobs show

Marc Jacobs found himself in the midst of another controversy after he was accused of cultural appropriation by having his models walk the runway wearing multi-colored dreadlocks. Calling it ‘nonsense’, he tried to explain that the look was, in fact, inspired by cyber goths. However, that did not go too well with the critics. He later addressed the matter in an interview and confessed that the words used were inappropriate, apologizing later on Instagram for “the lack of sensitivity unintentionally expressed by my brevity”.
Gucci’s Sweater resembling Blackface

During a 2019 show, models walked the runway wearing a turtleneck that many viewed as resembling a black face. They weren’t essentially the traditional turtlenecks for they went on to the face and had a red cutout for the lips. After receiving the backlash, the company issued a statement on Twitter, apologizing and confirming that the item had been removed from all their stores.
