The United States of America reported more than 1.2 million incidents of rape, murder, robbery and aggravated assault in 2020. COVID-19 pandemic wasn’t enough, there is a rise in the number of homicides reported this year. According to the Council on Criminal Justice, “Homicide rates between June and August of 2020 increased by 53% over the same period in 2019, and aggravated assaults went up by 14%.” As reported by the crime analyst Jeff Asher, “Murder is up by 28 percent throughout this year so far as compared to the same period in 2019.”

Anchorage has the highest crime rate in the United States of America with a violent crime rate of 12.6 per one thousand residents. The property crime rate in Anchorage is 50.2 per one thousand residents. Anchorage saw a sudden rise in the number of crimes reported this year. It is new in the 2020 list.

Wichita has a population of 638,135 and has reported a violent crime rate of 8.2 per one thousand residents. The property crime rate in Wichita is 42.3 per one thousand residents. Wichita saw an upsurge in the number of crimes reported this year as it was in the 43rd position last year while it has reached the fourth position this year.

Lubbock, with a population of 319,795, reported a violent crime rate of 8.3 per one thousand residents and a property crime rate of 39.6 per one thousand residents. Lubbock is new on the list making it evident that it saw an upsurge in the number of criminal cases reported in 2020.

Detroit-Dearborn-Livonia has a population of 1,748,511. It reported a violent crime rate of 10 per one thousand residents and property crime rate of 27.1 per one thousand residents. It has reported fewer criminal cases as compared to last year. It fell by four ranks this year.

7. Spokane-Spokane Valley, Washington

Spokane-Spokane Valley, with a population of 558,298, reported a violent crime rate of 4.4 per one thousand residents. It reported property crime rate of 43.8 per one thousand residents in 2020.

8. Shreveport-Bossier City, Louisiana

Shreveport-Bossier City has a population of 397,965 and reported violent crime of 6 per one thousand residents and a property crime rate is 37.4 per one thousand residents. It is new to this list which means Shreveport-Bossier City saw a rise in the number of crimes reported this year.

9. Corpus Christi, Texas

With a population of 430,731, Corpus Christi reported a violent crime of 7 per one thousand residents and a property crime of 33.7 per one thousand residents. It was in the 32nd position in 2019.

Mobile in Alabama has a population of 430,335 and it reported violent crime of 5.3 per one thousand residents and a property crime rate of 38.9 per one thousand residents.
