I-16 shut down after a crash, traffic diverted

I-16 which is used by about 21,000 vehicles every day, is permanently closed after the crash on the highway. Those hoping to travel to the coast Thursday will need to get off in Treutlen County, about 150 miles southeast of downtown Atlanta, while authorities are on the scene of the wreck at the Ga. 86 overpass.
A bridge appears to have been dislodged from its concrete base and pushed back at least 6 feet after a truck’s bed malfunctioned and it hit the bridge. For now, the time for the reopening of the bridge is unclear.
