Joe Biden expected to appoint Tom Nides as the Ambassador to Israel

US President Joe Biden might name former senior State Department official Tom Nides as the ambassador to Israel, a person in the knowledge of the matter, told Associated Press.

Nides is presently serving as the Managing Director and Vice Chairman of Morgan Stanley.

Nides has formerly served as Deputy Secretary of state for management and resources from 2011 to 2013 under the leadership of Hillary Clinton.

The official told in terms of anonymity to name the yet-to-be-announced pick, said Nides has already been officially offered the position.

The president is expected to soon declare the pick, However, the specific timing stands unclear, according to another person in the knowledge of the discussions.

The official, who couldn’t comment in public, told that Biden had reserved his choice for the Israel ambassadorship and screening was underway.

Appointing an ambassador in Israel had become a topmost priority for the Biden administration after the 11-day conflict between Israel and Hamas this month that left more than 250 people, a majority of Palestinians dead and displaced tens of thousands from the Gaza Strip.
