Joe Biden marks 11th anniversary of the Affordable Care Act
On this day 11 years ago, Former President Barack Obama signed the Affordable Care Act. It is a $938 billion health care overhaul. It’s officially been more than a decade since President Barack Obama signed the Affordable Care Act into law.
The purpose of the Affordable Care Act was to make healthcare more accessible and more affordable to Americans.
Joe Biden is going to mark the occasion of the 11th anniversary of the ACA’s signing in a big way.
President Joe Biden announced on Tuesday that he would extend the special enrollment period for people to purchase Affordable Care Act health plans by 3 months. Thus extending the time period until August 15, addressing the COVID-19 pandemic impact.
Thousands of people have signed up for ACA coverage, generally called Obamacare, during the special enrollment period that Biden ordered from February 15 to May 15. With the second extension new and current enrollees can take advantage of the enhanced subsidies in the COVID-19 relief package.
“When I ran for president, I promised I would build on the foundation of the Affordable Care Act. Just 50 days into my administration, we have delivered on that promise with the American Rescue Plan Biden said on Tue in a speech in Columbus, Ohio “It does that by making health care more affordable. It means better coverage and lower premiums for millions of Americans,” Biden said in a speech in Columbus, Ohio on Tuesday.
Barack Obama took to Instagram sharing the historic triumph through a photo of himself signing the Affordable Care Act.
He captioned it, “As part of the American Rescue Plan, President Biden just signed the largest expansion of health care since the Affordable Care Act—helping an additional 1.3 million Americans get access to coverage.” He added, “Because until every single American has access to quality, affordable health care—we have more work to do, and I’m grateful to President Biden for continuing to lead the fight,” expressing his vision for America and gratefulness to Joe Biden for this move.
