Kamala Harris offers condolence in latest tweet after an unfortunate accident in Mexico city

23 people, including children, were killed, 65 were injured and 49 hospitalized after a railway overpass and metro train ran into a busy road in Mexico City on Monday night. The horrifying accident crushed cars under fallen carriages and rubble.

Vice President Kamala Harris took to Twitter to express condolences to the bereaved families.

After the accident took place, the authorities stopped rescue efforts shortly after they began, stating there was a risk of more train parts and debris crashing down over the road.

Mayor of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum stated that 49 people out of the injured were hospitalized, and over seven were in severe condition and undergoing surgery.

However, talking about the cause of the accident, Sheinbaum said, “The cause of the collapse of the beam must be established through an expert investigation.”

The train collapse is being termed as one of the deadliest episodes in the history of Mexico City’s subway system, which is among the world’s busiest.
