Mark McCloskey, man who waved gun at protesters confirms Senate run

Mark McCloskey confirmed on Tuesday he will run for the U.S. Senate in 2022.

McCloskey, a St. Louis personal injury lawyer, garnered national attention after he and his wife motioned guns at racial injustice protesters who were parading near their home last summer,

McCloskey made the declaration on Tucker Carlson’s show on Fox News. The Federal Election Commission’s website earlier on Tuesday, presented “Mark McCloskey for Missouri” as registered. Also, a website, mccloskeyforsenate.com, was asking for campaign donations.

During the show, McCloskey told Carlson, “God came knocking on my door last summer disguised as an angry mob. And it really did wake me up.”

The current Missouri Republican Roy Blunt stated in March that he would not run for a third term.

McCloskey will pursue the Republican nomination against two people, who have strong name recognition: Former Gov. Eric Greitens, who quit from office after a sex scandal surfaced in 2018 and Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt.
