Massachusetts creates fund to compensate black residents for past damages

A liberal Massachusetts town has created a fund to pay reparations to eligible black residents to repair past harms it committed against them or their ancestors after the voting in Amherst Town Council this week. Officials have planned to deposit $210,000 in the fund account. Amherst has a black population of 2100 out of 39,000 total population.

The proposed plan is to be executed by Oct 31st. All the damages with proof will be compensated according to the plan. Voter registration data shows it’s truly a liberal town. Of all registered voters, fewer than 7 per cent have been Republican since 2004, while about 50 per cent have registered as Democrats. This step is considered to be a step forward towards equality.
