Multiple vehicles crash in New Castle County, Delaware; Traffic diverted to other routes
Multiple vehicles including a tractor-trailer and one containing 1,500 pounds of organic peroxide crashed into one another on the I-95. Two people were injured and two died in the accident.
The peroxide spilled on the road and HazMat Officers sealed the whole area for inspection ad removal of the compound. The closure has been extended indefinitely and officials have informed that it will take some time to deal with the accidents and spillage.
“1/2 NCCo. Traffic Alert: I-95 northbound continues to be CLOSED. All I-95 traffic is being detoured off the road at the Route 896 interchange.
Route 141 is now OPEN in both directions across I-95,” Delaware Department of Transportation updated.
Due to a crash involving HAZMAT on I-95 northbound near the SR 141/Airport Road exit, 95 northbound and southbound are closed as well as SR 141 over I-95. Traffic is being diverted to alternate routes and signal adjustments have been made. We expect this to be an extended closure
