NASA plans to send first person of color to moon along with first woman
So far only white men have got the privilege to touch the moon’s surface, says NASA’s administrator, Steve Jurczyk, he added that in addition to President’s budget request, the agency’s Artemis will have a new goal and that will be sending a person of colour to the lunar surface. Initially, they had planned to send a woman up there.
“President’s discretionary request has given us necessary resources to continue advancing America’s bipartisan Moon to Mars space exploration plan, including landing the first woman and first person of colour on the moon under the Artemis program,” says Jurczyk in a statement. “It will help us better understand Earth and predict the impact of climate change,” he continued.
Biden’s budget for the fiscal year 2022 includes $24.7 billion for NASA.
Last November, the agency introduced 18 astronauts, including nine women and several people of colour, who will staff the Artemis program. It is yet to know who will be the first woman and the first person of colour or is it going to be a woman of colour, achieving both the qualities.
