New York City Police to face misconduct charge in Supreme Court
Washington – As the George Floyd case has posed serious concerns over the way of policing, such apprehensions gained further traction as the Supreme Court on Monday gave a nod to hear the case pertaining to police misconduct.
Accused of abusing his new-born daughter, Larry Thompson was arrested by the New York City police in the year 2014.
However, the child abuse allegation on Thompson turned out to be a trivial issue of diaper rash, for which he spent two days in jail.
Subsequently, the prosecutors dismissed the case after a month and attributed the closure as “in the interest of justice”.
Complaining of police high-handedness, Thompson has now filed a civil suit on the grounds that his Fourth Amendment rights have been violated.
The Supreme Court will probably hear the case in fall.
