No active shooter at Newport News Shipbuilding on Thursday

There was no active shooter on Thursday morning at Newport News Shipbuilding as confirmed by a spokesperson.

Another naval installation was conducting an active shooter drill Thursday morning and fragmented radio transmission was picked up by the USS John C. Stennis (VNS74) aircraft carrier, which is undergoing a refueling and a complex overhaul at the shipyard, as mentioned by Duane Bourne with Huntington Ingalls. After hearing the message, the aircraft carrier and other vessels at the shipyard chose to lockdown.

“We support their response and believe they took appropriate action. We expect all ships to release from lockdown no later than 10 a.m.” the shipyard said.
