NYC mayoral candidate Eric Adams to discuss gun violence reduction with Biden

Former police captain Eric Adams, who clinched the New York Democratic mayoral nomination last week, is scheduled for a meeting at the White House with President Joe Biden on Monday. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the administrations’ plan to overcome a nationwide increase in gun violence.
The Brooklyn borough president accompanied by the mayors of Washington, D.C., and San Jose, California, as well as several law enforcement officials, will sit down with President Biden and Attorney General Marrick Garland to discuss Biden’s crime prevention strategy. The plan includes the targeting of rogue gun dealers and cracking down on illegal firearms by tracking their whereabouts. Furthermore, Biden’s strategy involves using direct funds from the president’s $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief package and investing it into public safety initiatives. This shall see the hiring of more police offices and the spreading of community violence prevention programs.

The former police captain has described himself as “the new face of the Democratic party”, prevailing in the mayoral primary race by centering his campaign on public safety and criticizing liberal slogans such as “defund the police”; doing all this while assuring the populace that a new era of proper police conduct will be ushered in, while a crackdown on police misconduct and abusive policing will be observed. These hard-on-crime messages are perceived by some Democrats to be integral in next year’s midterm elections.
