Ohio Governor announces $1 million prize for getting vaccine dose

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine declared on Wednesday that his state will grant $1 million to five people who had received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccination.

DeWine tweeted, “Two weeks from tonight on May 26th, we will announce a winner of a separate drawing for adults who have received at least their first dose of the vaccine. This announcement will occur each Wednesday for five weeks, and the winner each Wednesday will receive one million dollars.”

DeWine added that the names of the eligible adults 18 or older will be drawn by the Ohio Lottery from public records. Meanwhile, Ohio residents can try on a different website for an opportunity to win the cash prize, which will be taken out from COVID-19 relief funds.

In a series of tweets, he added that it’s mandatory for the winners to be Ohio residents and to have received at least one dose of the vaccine before the lottery draw.

In another tweet, DeWine said,” I know that some may say, ‘DeWine, you’re crazy! This million-dollar drawing idea of yours is a waste of money,’” the Republican governor tweeted. “But truly, the real waste at this point in the pandemic — when the vaccine is readily available to anyone who wants it  is a life lost to COVID-19.”
