President Biden tweets in support for transgender rights, declares March 31 as Trans Day of Visibility
President Biden has tweeted his support for transgender communities as Arkansas joins the list of states to pass a bill that would deny the LGBTQ communities its rights.
Arkansas is among the many states that are considering anti-trans bills that would deny health care or civil right to trans people. The bills put forth this year predominantly fall into two categories: removing trans girls’ ability to participate in girls’ sports, and restricting young trans peoples’ access to gender-affirming health care.
While many of them may not become law, bills in three states — Tennessee, Mississippi and Arkansas — have already been passed and signed by state governors this month.
The bill passed in Arkansas bans doctors from providing some treatments to transgender youth.
The President declared March 31 as the Trans Day of Visibility in the hopes of bringing spirits up and recognizing the rights of the LGBTQ communities.
Vice President Kamala Harris tweeted as well, showing her support for the cause.
Transgender rights are human rights — and I’m calling on every American to join me in uplifting the worth and dignity of transgender Americans. Together, we can stamp out discrimination and deliver on our nation’s promise of freedom and equality for all. #TransDayofVisibility
