Prince Philip transferred to a new hospital to undergo tests and treat infection

Britain’s Prince Philip, the husband of Queen Elizabeth II, was shifted to a new hospital on Monday, after being admitted nearly two weeks ago.

In a statement, Buckingham Palace said that “doctors will continue to treat him for an infection, as well as undertake testing and observation for a pre-existing heart condition.”

The 99-year-old Duke of Edinburgh was shifted from King Edward VII’s Hospital to St Bartholomew’s Hospital. According to the statement, the Duke remains comfortable and is reacting to treatment but is asked to remain in hospital until at least the end of the week.

Prince Philip was admitted to the King Edward VII Hospital in London on February 17 after feeling unwell. Later on, the palace confirmed that he was being treated for an infection.

St Bartholomew Hospital is run by the National Health Service, according to its website, Barts Heart Centre is Europe’s largest specialized cardiovascular service.

In a statement, Prince Edward, Prince Philip’s youngest son told the UK’s Sky News recently that his father was doing “a lot better” and was looking forward to returning home. “He’s looking forward to getting out which is the most positive thing. So we’ll keep our fingers crossed.”

“We’ve had some brilliant and lovely messages from all sorts of people. And we really appreciate that and so does he. I’ve been passing them on,” Edward added.

On Feb. 20, Prince Charles, the royal couple’s firstborn and successor to the throne, visited his father.

Philip retired from public duties in 2017. The Duke has had several health issues in recent years and was last hospitalized in December 2019.

Having moved away from Buckingham Palace, the royal couple have been staying at Windsor Castle during the coronavirus pandemic.

The queen and Prince Philip both received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in January 2021.
