Residential eviction ban extends till July 31

Centres for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) COVID-19 residential eviction moratorium extends till July 31st. The ban on residential evictions was implemented in September. Vanita Gupta wrote to state justice authorities to take certain steps to help tenants and to protect the landlord’s interest at the same time.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has presented a historic threat to the nation’s public health. Keeping people in their homes and out of crowded or congregate settings, like homeless shelters, by preventing evictions is a key step in helping to stop the spread of COVID-19.” CDC said.

Congress has approved $47 billion in relief for renters but much of that money has not yet been distributed. This fund might help decide the future course of action.
