Rockton Fires still not contained; Evacuation of the area continues

An explosion that started a raging fire yesterday at Chemtool Manufacturing Plant in Rockton, Illinois is yet to be subdued. People from the area within a one-mile radius of the site were evacuated and traffic near it diverted. People within three miles were advised to wear a face mask as the soot thickens in the area. The Fire Chief in charge says that it will continue to burn for some days.

According to Chief Kirk Wilson, 70 workers (according to officials, around 50) and none were harmed during the ordeal. A firefighter who had trouble breathing was sent home to rest.

Kocher Street, Blackhawk Blvd. between Route 2 and North Bridge Street, Dingham Drive, Central Drive, Kile Drive, Wright Drive, Watts Avenue, N. Blackhawk Blvd. between Central Drive and Prairie Hill Road, Prairie Hill Road between South Bluff Road and Route 2 have been blocked, only emergency vehicles allowed to pass.
