Russian protestors gather outside Russian Embassy in London for Navalny’s freedom

More than 250 people in London are protesting against Vladimir Putin, Russian President, to free Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny, outside the Russian embassy on Wednesday.

“Putin is an old-fashioned demagogue but with a background in secret service so he is very well equipped to be a tyrant,” said a British man who joined the protest holding a plastic lavatory brush.

The lavatory brush became a symbol of protest in Russia after Navalny’s video investigation alleged that Putin had installed opulent lavatory brush in the palace.

Most of the Russian protestors outside the embassy chanted “Free Navalny, Free Russia” in both Russian and English. Some held a giant picture of Navalny and other had placard which read “Today Navalny, Tomorrow You”.

Marina Litvinenko, the widow of ex-KGB spy Alexander Litvinenko, who was poisoned with a rare radioactive isotope, said that “We all want Alexei Navalny to be freed and to receive medical help”.

“Mr. Putin – the people don’t want you,” she added.

Navalny after a nerve agent poisoning attack, which he blamed on Putin, travelled to Germany last August for treatment. On his arrival to Russia in February, he was imprisoned for two-and-half years for a parole violation, which according to him is fabricated.

The Kremlin has claimed to find no evidence of poisoning and denied any Russian involvement for the same.
