Senate Maj. Leader Chuck Schumer presses for abrogation of 2002 Authorisation for the use of military force
Senator Schumer started off by reminding the House that the reason for the death of Iranian Commander Qasem Soleimani after the drone strike on a Baghdad Airport that could have led to a war, was the 2002 Authorisation for the Use of Military Force. The House of Representatives will be voting in this regard tomorrow.
According to Senator Chuck Schumer, the abrogation would “eliminate the danger of a future administration reaching back into the legal dustbin to use it as a justification for military adventurism.” Also, that the need for such a law no longer remains. “The Iraq War has been over for nearly a decade. An authorization passed in 2002 is no longer necessary in 2021.”
