Severe thunderstorm watch issued in parts of D.C. area

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for portions of the D.C. area in the afternoon on Friday.

The warning is particularly for south-central D.C., southwestern Prince George’s County and north western Charles County in Maryland, and east central Fairfax County and Alexandria in Virginia.

According to NBC Washington Meteorologist Mike Stinneford, a frontal boundary will thrust through the D.C. area, taking off largely dissipated thunderstorms.

Stinneford said, “Not everyone will experience a storm, but those that do may see damaging winds and hail. Storms will end before sunset, and overnight it will be comfortable with a drop in the humidity. Saturday will be a sunny and hot day, but the humidity will be a bit lower. Hot and humid weather coming our way Sunday and into much of next week.”

The warning will be in place till 9 PM.
