Sony announce ‘PlayStation Plus Video Pass’ an online streaming service in PlayStation

Sony’s new service ‘PlayStation Plus Video Pass’ is being tested in Poland, with a one-year subscription that will allow subscribers to stream movies and TV shows. With this move, the company looks to expand its online subscription, as per Video Game Chronicle reports.

Sony’s VP, Nick Maguire, stated that the service will be a streaming app available for free to the owners of PS4 and PS5, with an active subscription for PS Plus subscription. The service will include fifteen movies and six TV shows, owned by Sony Picture, and more will be added every three months till the trial concludes.

Notably, the news of the PS Plus subscription had leaked a day before the official announcement.

As per Maguire, Poland was selected based on specific data which can help the company to understand which titles are most watched and how often is the service used. Executives have yet not made any comment on whether the service will roll out to other regions.

This service “PS Plus Video Pass” can be a new way for Sony to expand its online subscription as it does not have any competitor as of now. Sony also has a variety of movies in its library, including anime content as the company has purchased Funimation and Crunchyroll in December from AT&T for $1.175 billion.
