State of emergency declared in Louisiana amid widespread flood

One person died and one was found missing after Louisiana experienced an extensive flood. The flood has washed out homes and businesses and has led the governor to declare a state of emergency.

According to the Louisiana State Police, the death reportedly took place when a vehicle took off Highway 415 into a flooded ditch around 10 PM on Monday night in Port Allen, Louisiana, in West Baton Rouge Parish. While one person survived the crash and the other was missing on Tuesday, added the police.

However, the victims have not been identified yet.

According to WVUE, continuous rain lashed across the state on Tuesday. Many streets in New Orleans were already blocked before the day commute began. Similar was the case with roadways in St. Charles Parish.

A flash flood emergency was ordered for the southeast Baton Rouge area overnight.
