Stevie Wonder leaving the US for Ghana forever?

Stevie Wonder, the 79-year-old music icon, opened up during an interview with Oprah Winfrey and revealed that he plans to live in Ghana, shifting from the US permanently.

“I want to see this nation smile again and I want to see it before I leave … to move to Ghana,” the singer said in a clip published by Punch Newspapers. “Because I’m going to do that.” On being asked if he’s planning to relocate permanently, he said ” I am”.

“I don’t want to see my children’s children’s children have to say, ‘Oh, please like me, please, please respect me, please know that I’m important, please value me,'” he explained.

Wonder was born in 1950 in Michigan and became a Motown music star and pioneer despite being blind. He has said on several occasions in the past that he has developed a liking for Ghana’s food and that he feels there’s a strong sense of community there.

He has received 25 Grammys, an Oscar, and a Golden-Globe as well. He went through a bit of a health emergency last year resulting in a kidney transplant but made statements urging his fans to not react to rumors.

“And for all of the people that have been listening to these rumors, listen, if I’m feeling some kind of way, I’ll let you know,” he added. “We don’t want to have misinformation. I am alive and well.”
