Two-alarm fire engulfs vacant building in Concord
A two-alarm fire blazed through a vacant building in early Thursday morning at a church complex in Concord.
The fire was flaring on the grounds of Christ Community Church of the Nazarene at 1650, the Ashbury Dr. Fire crews reached at around 5:30 AM to find a two-story building engulfed in flames.
The building that was on the opposite side of the complex from the main church, was seriously damaged in the fire that burned through the roof. However, the sanctuary and church offices were found unaffected.
Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Peter stated that the crews that arrived first saw heavy flames coming from a two-story building and battled the fire defensively, finally extinguishing it by around 6:15 AM and saved the adjoining one-story building from catching fire.
Peter confirmed that no injuries were reported after the fire, and the cause behind the fire remains under investigation.
