U.S agencies to probe American connections to Haitian President’s assassination
The arrest of two Americans in Haitian President Jovenel Moise’s assassination has led the U.S law enforcement and intelligence agencies on Friday to probe the American connection to the assassination, sources told Reuters.
The two arrested Americans have been identified as James Solages, 35, and Joseph Vincent, 55. They were reportedly part of an armed commando unit that comprised mostly of Colombians.
According to the sources, U.S agencies will not be assisting in the investigation in Haiti as Haitian officials had not requested their help but will be looking into the matter.
Haitian officials have not revealed much as to why Solages and Vincent joined the Columbian commando unit to assassinate Moise.
According to public records, Solages, a naturalized U.S. citizen, lived in Tamarac, Florida, near Fort Lauderdale, and does not have a criminal record. He described himself as a “certified diplomatic agent” on a website of a charity run by him.
Not many details have been found about Vincent.
