Joe Biden tweets, “America is back”

President Biden during the virtual climate summit has announced that The United States have pledged to cut carbon emission by 50% by 2030, compared to levels of 2005.

This announcement comes in after U.S. rejoined the 2015 Paris Climate accord, which his predecessor had pulled out from.

The Paris Agreement is an international treaty on climate change, wherein around 200 countries are bound legally. It came into force on November 4, 2016. The agreement targeted the U.S. and other countries to cut its greenhouse gases but the nation withdrew and the other countries failed to do so.

The Agreement aimed at keeping the global temperature at a particular level and also aimed for the world to be ‘climate-neutral’ by the middle of the century.

The United States which emits more greenhouse gases by any other nation, withdrew itself from the accord. This intention was public by the former president, Donald Trump, in 2017 and it became official on November 4, 2017. Trump stated that, it was unfair for the U.S. to curb its carbon emission while the countries like India and China were allowed to use fossil fuel.
