Virginia makes marijuana legal, major confusion among people
Marijuana is legalized in Virginia but has lots of minutely detailed processes to focus upon and that’s what makes it confusing. The General Assembly voted to make legal the possession of small amounts of marijuana for anyone 21 years old and older. Here’s a short insight into the new law.
- You can either grow it yourself at house or get it as a “gift” from someone who grows it. Cannabis can also be bought through a prescription for medical purposes from few dispensaries.
- Adults 21 and over may cultivate up to four marijuana plants for personal use at their place of residence of a max of 5 inches each. But they must be tagged and must not be visible in public.
- You can share it with relatives over 21 as a gift but cannot sell it to them legally.
- A weird point is that you can’t legally buy marijuana seeds but can get them from someone who already owns a plant.
- You can’t legally smoke a joint or even share it with someone at a public place nor can you use it on roadways.

A new state agency, the Virginia Cannabis Control Authority similar to the Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Authority will run the state’s pot marketplace beginning in 2024.
