White House labor task force set to hold first meeting on Thursday
The White House labor task force led by Vice President Kamala Harris will be meeting for the first time on Thursday to encourage labor organizing at a time when only around 6% of U.S. private-sector employees come from unions, as per the White House officials and the Department of Labor.
A Labor Department spokesperson stated that Labor Secretary Marty Walsh will lead as vice chairman of the group and will be present in the meeting in person, reported Reuters.
President Joe Biden had last month signed an executive order to develop the task force, whose aim would be to help worker organizing around the United States, add more people to the union and tackle the challenges to labor organizing in underserved communities.
Biden’s executive order asked the task force to come with a bulk of recommendations within the next 180 days to point towards two important issues- How the present policies can encourage labor organizing in the federal government, and looking at important new policies and the associated regulatory problems.
