White Houses to Add AAPI Liaison after Ultimatum From Senators Hirono, Duckworth

Two senators dropped their thread to block President Joe Biden’s nominees after the White House agreed to add a senior-level Asian – American Pacific Islander adviser, amid concern that the community is under-represented in the administration.

On Tuesday Senator Mazie Hirono took Twitter and said that she would continue voting to confirm Biden’s nominees after what she called ”a productive conversation” with the White House.

Also, another Senator Tammy Duckworth said that she also welcomed the White House move and would not block Biden’s nominees.

Vice President Kamala Harris said she is also proud of Biden’s historically diverse Cabinet. ”There’s more work to be done; there’s no question about that.” said cont.

”The White House will add a senior-level Asian -American Pacific Islander Liaison, who will ensure the community’s voice is further represented and heard,” said Psaki in a statement.

There is no information available on who would be named to the post.

Harris is the first Black American, Asian American, and female Vice President.

Both the senator said that they would vote no on Colin Kahl, who is Biden’s nominee to be Pentagon’s top policy adviser until Biden committed to a more diverse Cabinet.

The tension rose after a spike in hate crimes during the COVID-19 pandemic, it also spikes this month after the Atlanta shooting.

During his visit to Ohio, Biden defended his approach to diversity by saying,” We have a lot of Asian Americans that are in Cabinet and Sub Cabinet-level.” Tuesday

One of the Asian American candidates, Neera Tanden, withdrew from consideration this month as Biden nominee for Office Management and Budget director after criticism over previous social media posts.
