Will Trump once again face the legal battle ?
Not long ago Trump was acquitted of the impeachment trial, yet the president and his legal supporter Rudy Giuliani are accused of hatching a plot with far-right groups including Proud group and Oath Keepers in inciting 6 Jan pandemonium.
Mississippi Democratic Rep. Bennie Thompson on Tuesday filled the lawsuit in federal court, in his personal capacity, it is the first civil action filed against the former President related to the attack at the US Capitol.
Trump and Giuliani are summoned observing their provoking tweets of mobilizing and preparing their supporters for an attack to prevent Congress from certifying the 2020 election results on January 6.
If it proceeds, it would mean the former President and others would be subject to discovery and depositions, potentially exposing details and evidence that weren’t released during the Senate impeachment trial.
The lawsuit cites a scarcely used federal statute passed after the Civil War that was intended to combat violence from the Ku Klux Klan; it allows civil actions to be brought against people who use “force, intimidation, or threat” to prevent anyone from upholding the duties of their office.
The NAACP is backing the lawsuit and helping to represent Thompson in court.
It will again source Trump to fight a legal battle and stand in the court if the lawsuit proceeds.
