Woman detained for death threats against Vice President Kamala Harris

Federal authorities held a Florida woman for allegedly making death threats to Vice President, Kamala Harris.

39-year old, Niviane Petit Phelps, sent a series of videos expressing anger over 2020 election results to her husband in prison. According to authorities, Phelps has applied for concealed weapon permit and is also practicing at a gun range.

Harris is of Black and South Asian descent but Phelp believes that madam VP “isn’t actually Black”, as per the Secret Service complaint.

A criminal complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for Phelps, says “knowingly and willfully made threats to kill and inflict bodily harm upon the Vice President of the United States in violation of Title 18, United Code Section 871.”

Phelps is a nurse at Jackson Memorial Hospital and is charged with making threats against Harris, following her detained on Thursday by the federal magistrate judge.

Phelps threatened to kill Harris in five videos and two photographs from February, in which she stated that she will be killed by her and she went as far as suggesting a specific day, says the complaint filed.

Currently, Phelps is being detained at the Federal Detention Centre in Miami and if convicted she will be spending five years in jail. They detained Phelps because the judge found her to be a “danger to the community”, as per Miami Herald.

In a statement by Scott Saul, Phelps attorney says, “Based upon my limited knowledge, I do not think that my client was a genuine threat to the vice president. All this case involved is was my client venting to her incarcerated husband.”

A spokesperson of Jackson Health System said that Phelps would be terminated. She was suspended from her job without pay.
