YouTube’s new feature allows to change channel name without impacting Google account

Creators at YouTube are now allowed to update their name and picture on their channels and those updates will be limited to the YouTube itself and no impact will be on Google.

This was a much needed update as until now, creators had to change their entire google account in order to change their name on YouTube channel. Their YouTube channel name had to be same as the name on their Gmail, through which they share emails. It clearly didn’t make much sense as the creator may not want to use their Gmail name as their channel name.

This new update came with a caution for the creators with verification badge: creators will lose their verification if they change their channel name. They are required to apply to receive the badge again.

This feature is a “top request from creators” and will be rolling out starting today, confirms YouTube.
