Yunnan, China hit with an earthquake of magnitude 6.6

An area 16 kms away from Dali in Yunnan, China was the epicentre of the earthquake. Confirmation of one death has been received by the administration. There have been huge losses to property though, the provincial government is working on providing aid to the affected people.

There were a series of after shocks and tremors were reported before this quake as well. As studies by seismologists indicate, the region in Yunnan is more perceptible to earthquakes because of the Indian and Eurasian collisions that cause seismic activity here. There have been many earthquakes in the past, they have had much more disastrous impacts on this region.
