Facebook launches Neighborhoods, a new feature to connect neighbors

Facebook has announced to launch a new section on its app that is created to connect neighbors and collect neighborhood-level news.

The new feature will most likely be called Neighborhoods. The feature is already available in Canada and will be soon rolled out for U.S. users.

The feature Neighborhoods has been doing the rounds technically from at least October of last year. However, that limited test only recruited people of Calgary, Canada.

Through the new feature, Facebook users will be able to create a different sub-profile and can fill it with their interests and a custom bio. It will help people join their own lower-case neighborhood and nearby neighborhoods and talk about anything under the roof.

Knowing about the intense need for moderation on Nextdoor, an application on the same line of idea, Facebook stated that it will put in place a set of moderators dedicated to Neighborhoods to keep a check and review comments and posts to keep the content ‘relevant and kind.’

The new section of Facebook will also consist of blocking features. In terms of privacy policies, just like Facebook, Neighborhoods will provide users targeted ads by understanding their neighborhood behavior.
