Tokyo Olympics Updates: US lose to Japan in softball game, US women win silver at gymnastics qualifiers

Day 4 of the Tokyo Olympics was upsetting for Americans with the US losing to Japan in the softball game. In the much-anticipated gymnastics qualifier round, US women won a silver medal.

US lost to Japan in the softball game, the first loss in the Olympics. Japan won the game 2-0. It was somewhat a deja vu moment for Americans, as US had lost to Japan in softball in the 2008 Olympics.

Simone Biles’s last-minute withdrawal from the gymnastics qualifiers cost the team a gold medal. The qualifiers ended with Russia winning the gold medal, US with silver, and British with a bronze medal.

On Monday US shooter Vincent Hancock became the first skeet shooter to win three gold medals. Amber English won the gold medal in the women’s shooting event.

17-year-old Lydia Jacoby won the gold in the 100-meter breaststroke, defeating South African swimmer Tatjana Schoenmaker and US teammate and world recorder Lilly King.
