Twitter announces new feature, warns people on use of offensive language

Microblogging website Twitter announced that it is creating a new feature that will prompt users to reconsider before they post anything that consists of potentially ‘strong or offensive language’. Twitter claimed that the upgraded feature is now better at identifying ‘strong language’.

The company confirmed the same on Wednesday by posting tweets explaining the new feature.

Initially, the new feature will be rolled out for the English users of Twitter’s iOS application, and for the Android users, it will be available “in the next few days.”

As per the new feature, before posting a tweet or replying to one, the users will be alerted, if the language in their content matches those available in posts that have been earlier reported. Also, people will be provided the option of rewriting their messages before they post them on the internet.

The feature is also familiar with vocabulary that has been ‘reclaimed by underrepresented communities and is used in an unharmed manner. It will also assess a person’s relationship with the person he/she’s messaging.
