With president Biden’s 100 days is behind him, he has announced a $2.3 trillion American Jobs Plan, which includes major investment in infrastructures such as roads, bridges and highways, railroads, and water infrastructure.
The meeting chaired by Ohio’s Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown, also involved the local transit leaders, including:
- Darryl Haley, SORTA CEO
- Vikas Mehta, Professor, Ohio’s eminent scholar, and Urban Design Certificate Coordinator at the University of Cincinnati
- Eddie Koen, President, and CEO, Urban League
- Troy Miller, President/Business Agent, Amalgamated Transit Union Local 627
- Jill Meyer, President, and CEO of Cincinnati Regional Chamber of Commerce
During the discussion, Harris touted the administration’s aim to allocate “significant” funds for the training of the transit workers to drive green buses. Miller mentioned that workers were not the only ones to be affected due to the pandemic as it also led to stiffer budgets and job cuts.
SORTA CEO, Haley, said that public transit is all about jobs, as it connects people with higher-paying jobs, which helps citizens move out of poverty. Meyer explained that increased access to public transit is linked to economic development.
Funding infrastructure beyond roads and bridges is not driven by a political motive, as stated by Harris. But instead, it is for the economic growth and creation of jobs.
Harris’s visit was criticized by Ohio Republican Party chair Jane Timken as she wrote that “Biden’s administration is more interested in PR tour for their 100 failure days than actually addressing issues of national concern.”
Kamala Harris blames COVID for the reason she can't travel to the border.
She called concerns about not visiting “political games.”
But she can travel to Cincinnati today?
